2022 FANTASY FOOTBALL PREVIEW: MIAMI DOLPHINS GO FINS UP ON OFFENSE

The Dolphins are a team I want to like. Only part of it is that Dan Marino is my all-time favorite QB. It’s also new HC Mike McDaniel’s off-kilter, bro-ish sense of humor. Definitely a far cry from the death stare of Don Shula.

SCOTT FISH BOWL 12 #SFBLA LIVE DRAFT… WE LOVE LA!

When I first applied to Scott Fish Bowl 11 more than a year ago, I couldn’t have imagined what greeted me the afternoon of July 16 at Trophy Smack for the 12th edition of this congregation of the some of the best fantasy football minds in the world. The entire upstairs of the building was a dream for those kids who never want to grow up. Two-lane bowling alley. Pinball machines lining a couple walls. An old-school Asteroids video game took me back to being 12. Darts, pool and foosball tables… it was all there to be enjoyed, with a fully stocked bar ready for self serve or someone ready to pour.

COMEBACK STORY: LATE-SEASON ACL INJURIES & THE RETURN FOR 2022 FANTASY FOOTBALL

Never trust the player. Always trust the doctor. That’s what I heard in my first MLB spring training in 2006 when discussing players returning from injuries. Because the players are trained and programmed to perform from an early age, and when the playing field is taken away because of injury, the drive to get back on the field can make a player be overly optimistic about the prospects of returning to action. Often too optimistic.

TOP ROOKIE RB LANDING SPOTS FROM NFL DRAFT

The NFL Draft is in the rear-view mirror. Now what? What comes next may be just as much fun, if not more, than the buildup to the NFL’s version of a Tijuana Swap Meet.

LOCO FREE AGENCY RECAP

It really was just nine days ago that we woke up with Tom Brady still retired, Deshaun Watson’s future still uncertain and a couple other signal callers not exactly making plans to call a mover.

SUPER BOWL LVI DFS PREVIEW, DO IT FOR NOLAN!

This one is for Nolan Cromwell. Don’t remember him? That’s OK. He was an option Qb at Kansas who converted and played free safety for the Los Angeles Rams from 1977-87, and even made the Pro Bowl four times.

NFL CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND, REMATCH FOR SUPER BOWL SHOTS

I remember the ending of the original Rocky. It was at the culmination of 15 grueling rounds that was inspired by the near-death experience that was Ali-Frazier III, aka the Thrilla in Manila. Sorry, I just realized I referenced that last week. But at the end of the movie’s epic battle, Apollo Creed, his ribs broken, but his spirit barely intact, yelled into Rocky’s ear, “Ain’t gonna be no rematch.” Rocky said he didn’t want one. Well, for the NFL Championship round of the playoffs, just one step from the Super Bowl, we get not just one, but two rematches.

NFL DIVISIONAL ROUND DFS, THE GREATEST WEEKEND OF FOOTBALL

About 20 years ago, I read Peter King’s recap of the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs in Sports Illustrated. He called it the greatest weekend of football all year. I hadn’t thought of it at the time, because I was focused on the games, but he was 100% right.

SUPER WILDCARD WEEKEND DFS, DID SOMEONE SAY PLAYOFFS?!

Playoffs?! Can someone cue up Jim Mora’s YouTube rant? I love this time of year. I remember when I worked in baseball, no matter how tired you were after the six-month crucible that was the season, everyone in the front office always found that extra gear in the postseason to match the players. It’s the same thing now.

WEEK 18 DFS, LOCO WEEK STILL WITH CALIENTE PLAYS

Week 18 is crazy. Una locura as we’d say in Spanish. It reminds me of those late-season baseball games when teams that are out of the pennant race are playing minor leaguers to see what they might have for the next season. And those teams that have already clinched are sitting their studs to freshen them up for the playoffs. At best, you get an at-bat followed by a seat on the bench.
