WEEK 17 DFS, FELIZ ANO NUEVO

Familia, if you don’t have a championship to play for this week, we have you covered. DFS is how we’re going to rearrange our content from now through the Super Bowl. We’ll focus on players who are both expensive and primed to break the slate, as well as those value plays who can help you get those important points at the end of your roster.

CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK ADENTRO Y AFUERA, JUST WIN, BABY & TRIBUTE TO JOHN MADDEN

The irony of starting this column with a tribute after the passing of the legendary John Madden is that the ethos of the old Oakland Raiders was “Just Win, Baby.” Still is in the Las Vegas incarnation, but I very much identify those words with Al Davis and Madden. Because for all the Miller Lite commercials, hundreds of national NFL broadcasts and millions of video games bearing his name, John Madden was first and foremost a football coach.

WEEK 17 LOS PEEKUPS, CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK. READY TO BE A CAMPEON?

Familia, if you’re reading this, felicidades! You’re in the title game. Salud, pat yourself on the back, but your work is not done. Time to finish the job. There are still players to pick up to either add depth with COVID still running rampant through the NFL, to plug into your lineup or to block your opponent from using them against you. This is no time to let up. You only get so many chances at a title!

WEEK 16 ADENTRO Y AFUERA, IN THE DANCE & FELIZ NAVIDAD

Familia, I still have scars from Christmas 2020. I had a team that was on a 10-game winning streak, with Davante Adams and AJ Brown just rolling people every week. It was a remarkable team built on a deep draft and a late-round QB – Ryan Tannehill – that hit big.

WEEK 16 LOS PEEKUPS – WAIVER WIRE – HOLIDAY SHOPPING FOR THE FANTASY FOOTBALL SEMIS

If you’re reading this, it means you survived. Salud! Raise a glass to survival and a little bit of suerte. If you were really lucky you had a bye and didn’t have to deal with the week that’s still not over as of this writing. Ready to do it two more times? That’s what it’s going to take, though hopefully it won’t be the crucible that was Week 15.

WEEK 15 ADENTRO Y AFUERA 1.0, STAY COOL

IAs I’ve said before, I’m a huge Bruce Springsteen fan. I’ve seen him in concert more than a dozen times over the Remember March 11, 2020? Of course you do. That was the day that all COVID hell was breaking loose everywhere. Major sports leagues shut down operations either that day or right after. Sports stars were getting COVID. Major movie stars like Tom Hanks were testing positive around the world. Everyone seemed to be hoarding beans, rice, potatoes and bananas at the grocery stores. Un desmadre, as we’d say in Spanish.

WEEK 15 LOS PEEKUPS, PLAYOFFS & ADIOS, ADIOS TO A LEGEND

Sometimes there are losses that just really gnaw at you. This has been a fairly successful season for me, personally. A great number of my teams are 8-5 and looking good for the playoffs. A couple have even survived significant-to-Familia, I want to take a moment before we talk about football to mention the gargantuan loss that the entire country of Mexico is feeling. Vicente Fernandez, aka Chente to the masses, passed away on Sunday on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He’s one of the great voices in the country’s history, and a true rags-to-riches tale that has been as inspiring as his voice has been moving.

WEEK 14 ADENTRO Y AFUERA 2.0, FINISH STRONG

IAs I’ve said before, I’m a huge Bruce Springsteen fan. I’ve seen him in concert more than a dozen times over the past 30+ years, though I have friends who are pushing triple digits and call me a rookie.

WEEK 14 ADENTRO Y AFUERA, ONE BIG QUESTION 1.0

I already talked about win and you’re in for the fantasy playoffs. In my leagues, I haven’t seen any 11-2 or 10-3 teams. There have been a lot of 9-4, 8-5 and 7-6 teams. I haven’t seen too many teams with a combination of Jonathan Taylor, Cooper Kupp and Deebo Samuel on the rosters. So, like injuries, it looks like the dominant players are more spread out this season.
