SCHEDULING A LEAGUE-WINNER. WHOā€™S ARRIBA? WHO’S ABAJO?

Living in Southern California my entire life, Iā€™ve been spoiled. Whenever I meet transplants from the Northeast and the Midwest, I tell them that their favorite time of the year is going to be January.

LOS WAIVERS WEEK 14: IT’S WINNIN’ TIME!

My all-time favorite sports hero is Earvin ā€œMagicā€ Johnson. I may have stated this before. Iā€™ll forever argue that Magic is the greatest basketball player ever. Even greater than Michael Jordan, though LeBron James is catching up to both of them.

ADENTRO Y AFUERA WEEK 13: JOE COOL RULES AS PLAYOFFS LOOM

Iā€™ve made it pretty clear that I grew up a fan of the LA Rams. Jack Youngblood, Jackie Slater, Eric Dickersonā€¦ from a football standpoint, those men were almost god-like. The defenses were stifling. The running games, even before Dickerson, were among the best in the NFL. The offensive line was as impenetrable as cinder block, and made stars of guys like Dennis Harrah, Tom Mack and Bill Bain.

LOS WAIVERS, WEEK 13: THE AFTERMATH

Saturdays are supposed to be almost as sedentary as Tuesdays are during the NFL season. All the practices are completed the day before, except for the teams playing on Monday Night Football.

ADENTRO Y AFUERA WEEK 12: ALWAYS DOUBLE DOWN ON 11

Donā€™t you hate it when you do the right thing in setting a lineup and it doesnā€™t work out? You do the research on your playersā€™ opposing defenses. You look at opportunity trends for your player. You even look at the weather in every city with an outdoor stadium.

LOS WAIVERS, WEEK 12: THANKFUL FOR AN OBSESSION

Back in 1990, a good friend named Chris Parker got me into fantasy baseball first, then football. He beat me in our very first game playing against each other. I remember he reached for Andre Rison in the second round, and my first-rounder was Christian Okoye. The Nigerian Nightmare.

ADENTRO Y AFUERA WEEK 11: APPRECIATING TE GREATNESS

This is an appreciation for Travis Kelce, and not just because he was on a bye last week with the Chiefs. I also have to make an important admission on my part. For the better part of my decades of playing fantasy football I did not appropriately value the position. Even though I grew up liking players like Dave Casper, Kellen Winslow and Tony Gonzalez, when it came to fantasy football, I was always quick to let others spend up their early picks while I hammered RBs and WRs.

LOS WAIVERS, WEEK 11: FELIZ CUMPLEANOS

I love my birthday. Since I was a teenager, I never wanted to work on my birthday. I did on my 20th birthday, and it almost made me late to see U2 on the original Joshua Tree Tour. Said Iā€™d never do that again.

TIGHT END RANKINGS, WEEK 10

If you have Travis Kelce on your team, this is the week that has been keeping you up at night. Trolling the waiver wire to get a one-week stopgap player. It ain’t pretty for those fantasy managers who haven’t had Kelce to just set it and forget it. Here are the Week 10 rankings:

RUNNING BACK RANKINGS, WEEK 10

Mamas, don’t let your children grow up to be Running Backs. The RB position has been a battle of attrition, and there will be plenty of fantasy managers who will be scooping up the bottom of the waiver wire just to field full lineups. Here are some of the names that are out this week (not counting players on bye): CMC, Chris Carson, David Johnson, Justin Jackson, Joe Mixon and David Montgomery. Though welcome back Miles Sanders and Nick Chubb. Not a lot of fun making the rankings past the Top 10.
