AYA WEEK 4, IT’S ABOUT TO GET NOT SO EARLY AND SALUD TO FLORIDA

Familia, first off let’s keep a good thought and send out some prayers for the people in Florida and up the East Coast who are dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. I have familia and friends out there, and thankfully they’re all healthy and safe. But some of them are dealing with major damage from the hurricane. I hope the rebuilds go well. Salud to you all.

AYA WEEK 3, DON’T OVERTHINK, START ALL DOLPHINS & BILLS

It’s Week 3, and how are we already dealing with all these injuries? Justin Herbert’s availability from a rib cartilage injury made the Chargers-Jaguars line cut in half from -7 to -3.5 for the home Chargers as we await the final inactives for the late games Sunday.

DFS FIESTA WEEK 2, THE HANGOVER & RECOVERY WITH SOME MENUDO

Who’s still feeling like Zach Galifianakis in The Hangover? I know I felt so great about some of my DFS takes, and only a few of the worked out. Full disclosure, I feel like these first few weeks are my DFS training camp, as we get a larger sample size of information on the players and their teams. There are things I pick up watching the games that I file away for when it’s time to break down the next week, but until there’s more time invested and games played that I feel most comfortable for the remainder of the season. Usually by the end of Week 4 I’m ready for the whole season.

ADENTRO Y AFUERA WEEK 2, HOW TO REACT TO THE OVERREACTION

I get it. We wait seven months for real NFL games to return, and when we get them, it’s like Saul and Mike dragging $7 million across the desert in that Better Call Saul episode. You’re so thirsty, though not as thirsty so as to go to the measures those two went to hydrate in the episode. Fans of the show are now squirming at the recollection.

ADENTRO Y AFUERA WEEK 1, MIXON READY TO RUN OVER STEELERS IN OPENING WEEK

Familia, we’ve got football back! I’ve always said that there are three year New Year’s Days: Jan. 1 and the opening days for MLB and NFL. And now we have the feeling of newness that will be destroyed right after teams storm onto the fields with flames and smoke shooting all over.

MY GUYS/MIS HOMBRES, PLAYERS WHO WILL SMASH AND THOSE WHO WILL CRASH IN 2022

Every time I see any fantasy football article titled “My Guys,” I think of the ‘60s classic by Mary Wells, and end up having the song stuck in my head for a little bit. So if I’m humming a little while I’m typing this that’s why. And if you have the song in your head now, you’re welcome.

PRIMO COWBOYS: DAK & CEEDEE DRIVE BIG D

The overall numbers looked great for the Cowboys. The #2 passing offense, with Dak Prescott as the overall QB7 in fantasy. Ezekiel Elliott with another 1,000-yard year, even though he was battling a knee injury much of the season. CeeDee Lamb took a big step forward and surpassed 1,000 yards for the first time. Add to it that the Cowboys won the NFC East. So on paper it looked good.

ADIOS VIN, GRACIAS FOR COUNTLESS PLEASANT GOOD EVENINGS

“Hi, everybody and a very pleasant good evening, wherever you may be.”

How many spring, summer and even fall evenings did I spend from 1977 to 2016 that started that way? Vin Scully was the soundtrack of my youth, and to hear of his passing on Aug. 2, it’s as bittersweet a moment as there is. Bitter in that he’s gone. It’s something you can never prepare for, even though you know it’s coming. He was 94, after all. But it’s easy to equate someone from your youth who meant a lot as being immortal. Almost like a parent or beloved uncle. To many, including me, he was just that.

2022 FANTASY FOOTBALL PREVIEW: DESERT HEAT, CARDINALS HAIL MURRAY

For all the recent hoopla surrounding Kyler Murray’s massive contract extension and its “independent study” clause that was eventually taken out, it’s clear that whoever leaked that information was going to put Murray on notice that he needed to become more of a student of the game to reach greatness and live up to that contract.
