The Cheat Code to Drafting Lamar Jackson Early

We hear the refrain all the time in fantasy football: Wait on QB. The depth at the position screams for waiting until the 9th round and beyond at QB. According to 4for4.com, Matthew Stafford is going at the end of the 9th round. Ben Roethlisberger is going late in the 11th round. Jared Goff is going early in the 12th round. All are expected to be in charge of high-flying pass attacks, and have breezed by 4,500 yards in recent seasons. If you want to wait to take any of them, no one will blame you.

LA Chargers Preview: Changing of the Guard

The Philip Rivers era is over. Charger fans used to the side-arming, gunslinging Rivers are in for something very different in Tyrod Taylor, who’s more of a dual-threat QB who doesn’t turn the ball over nearly as much. But Taylor hasn’t been a full-time starter since 2017 with the Bills. HC Anthony Lynn was on the Bills’ staff during Taylor’s tenure, and Lynn was the RB coach. So he might like the controlled-passing game with the QB taking some chances outside the pocket.

NY Giants Preview: Believe the Hype?

There is so much hype around making Daniel Jones this year’s Lamar Jackson, it’s starting to look hard for him to live up to it. It’s eerily similar to Baker Mayfield last year. The concern here is that it’s too much too soon. His final numbers – 3,027 passing yards, 24 TD passes, 279 rushing yards and 2 TD — looked promising, but of his 13 games (12 starts), Jones had 3 blowup games with 4 or 5 TD passes. Week 16 he completed 28 of 42 passes for 352 yards and 5 TD to help teams win titles… if they started him. He had no other games with more than 2 TD.

Denver Broncos Preview: Growing Up or Growing Pains?

John Elway gave Drew Lock the keys for the final 5 games of 2019. Is it premature? Going into his second year, Lock figures to still have growing pains, but there will be some highlight games in there. And of the first 5 games of the season, only Pittsburgh is a scary defense. A pair of those defenses – Jets and Miami in Weeks 4 and 5 – figure to be two of the worst this season, so we’ll know if Lock is the real deal right away.

Dallas Cowboys Preview: Riding High in Big D

Everything seems to be set up for the Cowboys to continue to be one of the treasure troves of fantasy football happiness. Even with a new HC in Mike McCarthy, everything is in place to keep this one of the most high-powered, fantasy-friendly offenses in the NFL. Beyond having last year’s QB2 (Dak Prescott), RB3 (Ezekiel Elliott) and a pair of WRs in the top 24 (Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup), the Cowboys return OC Kellen Moore, who called the plays on this revamped high-flying circus. Add to it that the Dallas O-line is ranked #3 by Pro Football Focus going into the season. Everything appears in place for a repeat performance.

K.C. Chiefs Preview: Great Expectations

It’s crazy to think that a team coming off a resounding Super Bowl victory, with the best QB in the game signing a gargantuan contract extension, bringing back the ridiculously talented core of skill players… and the biggest story for fantasy players in late July is a rookie RB who was nowhere near K.C. in early February for the team’s victory parade.

Schedule Breakdown: AFC East

This is the first in a series of articles breaking down the opening and closing of the team schedules for the AFC East. Yes, whether teams have fans in the stands will definitely have an impact on home-field advantage that will only be realized after we’ve seen a few games. But at this point, there are some definite takeaways that could sway toward picking or staying away from certain players.

It’s a Familia Party 10-Team Mock Draft

For our first mock draft on the Familia FFB podcast, we thought we’d make it a Familia affair. We invited several primos and compadres to fill out a 10-team draft, using standard scoring. We did the positions a little different, going single QB, and instead of a TE and Flex positions, we did 2 flexes, one WR/RB and the other WR/TE. We had a last-minute cancellation, so we filled 9 slots in the draft.

The drafters: Manny Arredondo, Nico Gutierrez, Brian Hall, Joe Mederos, Hector Reyes, Victor Reyes, Adan Torres, Ricky Torres and yours truly. All are avid players in multiple leagues, and most are in our Familialogy league, which has been in existence for 10 years.

David Vassegh on a Runaway American Dream

I first heard David Vassegh’s name during the late 1990s, early 2000s on the famous McDonnell-Douglas sports talk show hosted by local legends of LA sports media Joe McDonnell and Doug Krikorian.

That ’70s 4th of July, Pacoima Style

When I was a kid, I remember liking the 4th of July just as much as Christmas. And it was because of one very good reason: Fireworks.
