LOS PEEKUPS WEEK 8, THE WALKING WOUNDED

Welcome to LOS PEEKUPS! Or as I’ve come to say: Is anyone left? In Spanish: Quien mas? Familia, I talked with a friend who told me that he thought this past Sunday was the worst for NFL injuries EVER. If not, it’s close. Man, what a brutal weekend. The toll included Breece Hall being out for the season with a torn ACL. Bone bruise for D.K. Metcalf. High ankle sprain for Mike Williams. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. That Hall injury brought with it a trade of James Robinson to the Jets, so for 24 hours we thought that Michael Carter could be a thing. No mas.

Justin Fields has quietly rushed for 170 yards in the past two weeks, and that alone has put him in the discussion to become a weekly starter or a streaming QB rest of season.

Just a couple observations before we get into it.

NEW QB IN INDY: It was pretty drastic to get the news alert that Sam Ehlinger was replacing injured Matt Ryan for the REST OF THE SEASON! Nothing about Ryan’s injury return timeline. The Colts are done and moving on to the 2nd-year QB out of Texas. It’s hard to think of this as an upgrade for Michael Pittman and Parris Campbell. I’ve heard a comp of Ehlinger to Jalen Hurts. That’s a pretty big difference in offensive approach and scheme. If it means more Jonathan Taylor, then I’m for it. I’m pumping the brakes on the pass catchers, though.

AY DIOS MIO, BRADY & RODGERS! I watched those games, and the future Hall of Famers just don’t look like themselves. I saw quite a few dirt balls, which usually means they’re just getting rid of the ball to avoid getting sacked. They obviously don’t trust their O-lines right now, and in the case of Rodgers, the young receivers. I touched on this last week, but the fact that two of the players who are regularly in the NFL MVP discussion are struggling badly is partly why scoring is down this year. And we haven’t even hit the cold weather that suppresses scoring. Yikes!

Let’s get into it. It’s time for Los Peekups. We’re going into the players who are my recommendations to pick up and are available in at least 50% of Yahoo leagues. I’ll get into their opponent this week and who they’re facing ROS. Vamonos!

QUARTERBACK
JUSTIN FIELDS (35%) @ DAL
Gradually it’s getting better with Fields. The rushing yardage is climbing – 88 and 82 last couple games. He’s still not getting a lot of time to throw, but Fields is an option for later in the season because of the way the QB position has been rough outside of the top 5. I say later because Fields has the Cowboys this week, and Micah Parsons must be licking his chops at the thought of attacking that Bear O-line. There are games against Detroit (X2) and Atlanta that might be good weeks for spot starting Fields.

DAVIS MILLS (7%) vs TEN
Coming off the bye, Mills had his first 300-yard game against the Raiders’ bottom-dwelling defense. Up next, the Titans, who are #30 with 294.3 passing YPG allowed. With his bye week behind him, let’s see if Mills is going to be a good pickup for ROS.

ANDY DALTON (3%) vs LV
The 30-47-361-4-3 line for Dalton against the Cardinals was good all around, except for those playing in the Scott Fish Bowl where INTs are a no, no. Now Dalton gets a home date against the team that is #32 in FPG against the QB. The Raiders have allowed 13 TD passes and 3 more rushing scores for QBs.

RUNNING BACK
GUS EDWARDS (43%) @ TB
For everyone who spent up on Kenyan Drake last week on the waiver wire, lo siento mucho. HC John Harbaugh told us everything we need to know about this backfield in giving Edwards 16 rush attempts and 11 to Drake. Edwards will lead this backfield committee, but it will remain a committee. They go to Tampa to take on a Bucs team that has dropped two straight to inferior opponents in Pittsburgh and Carolina. The latter put up 173 combined yards from backups against the Bucs. I think Tampa will be inspired on the defensive end, but Edwards is the guy to have ROS for the Ravens.

D’ONTA FOREMAN (49%) @ ATL
One of the backups to trample the Bucs was Foreman, who got 15 rush attempts to 9 for Chuba Hubbard, who is not recommended because he’s battling an ankle injury. For my money, Foreman is the player to roster among the two. He’s likely going to bust multiple times during the ROS, but this week in Atlanta, he has a chance to put up some numbers against a D that is allowing 84 rushing YPG to the RB.

TYLER ALLGEIER (40%) vs CAR
Here are the rush attempts for Allgeier the past 4 games: 10, 13, 15, 16. I even heard from amigo Dave Kluge that Allgeier started himself while scoring his first NFL TD this past weekend. I love the self-belief, and the volume. Allgeier is a flex play or a bye-week fill-in for ROS. The Panthers are allowing 100.3 rushing YPG to the RB, even after shutting down the Bucs last week.

WIDE RECEIVER
GARRETT WILSON (49%) vs NE
With just 10 targets in his last two games, the volume has certainly not been there for Wilson. But this is an offense that will undergo a transition with Breece Hall being lost for the season. Will that mean more passing for the Jets? That’s possible, but the trade for Robinson signals they’ll remain run-heavy. Still, it’s a good idea to have their best pass catcher. Warning, the Patriots and Bills are up before the Jets go on bye in Week 10.

PARRIS CAMPBELL (5%) vs WAS
The man has 23 targets and 41.7 PPR fantasy points in the past two weeks. I dropped him in a league when he had that big donut in Week 2 when Michael Pittman was hurt. Wish I hadn’t done that. Washington is still #25 against the WR. I don’t love the QB change, but hopefully the resurgence of Campbell continues.

WAN’DALE ROBINSON (29%) @ SEA
After playing just 11 snaps in Week 6, Robinson was #2 on the team in targets with 29 and tops in targets with 8 on the way to a 6-50-0 line. The Giants are going to keep finding ways to get the ball to the rookie, so this is as much for ROS as it is the matchup with the Seahawks giving up 131.9 receiving YPG to the WR.

TYQUAN THORNTON (12%) @ NYJ
Before he went for 1-19-0 on Monday Night Football, there was some growing buzz about Thornton. And it’s with good reason. I remember before the NFL Draft, Greg Cosell said that if you took the uniforms off Chris Olave and Thornton, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the two. Also, remember that Thornton was one of the few people to run a 40 in sub-4.3 at the Combine. Another rookie WR to get for ROS.

JAMESON WILLIAMS (31%) IR
This is a recommendation only if you have an IR spot available, because bench spots are really valuable now with bye weeks in full swing. Williams is 9 months out from his ACL surgery, and reports have been good with him. HC Dan Campbell said the rookie will play this year. Stash him if you can, especially with D.J. Chark on IR.

TIGHT END
MIKE GESICKI (41%) @ DET
He has 7 targets in the last couple games and is going to play that Detroit defense that is #28 in FPG to TE postion. Really, is there anything else you need to know? He’s a TE and breathing.

GREG DULCICH (13%) @ JAX
The meme of Dulcich as the love child of Kenny G and “Weird Al” Yankovic is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a while. That aside, Dulcich is clearly the move TE for the Broncos. He ran 34 routes last week, which was more than four times what any other TE ran for the Broncos. He was targeted 9 times, catching 6 for 51 yards. Albert O. has not been on the field the past two games. This rookie from UCLA has quickly become a significant part of the offense.
