WEEK 9 ADENTRO Y AFUERA 1.0, STOP THE INSANITY!

Happy Halloween, Familia! How I used to love Halloween when I The first few days of this week felt like the NFL world was on fire. Derrick Henry out for the season. Jameis Winston, too. Aaron Rodgers and Saquon Barkley going on the COVID list (Barkley hopefully a false positive). Henry Ruggs’ heartbreaking situation – prayers up for the family of the young woman who lost her life. It just seemed like the news didn’t stop.

WEEK 9 LOS PEEKUPS, APPRECIATING DERRICK HENRY & BIENVENIDO MOVEMBER

First off, I want to acknowledge something bigger than football. As you can see, I’m rocking a mustache for #Movember. The goal is to promote men’s mental health, and I’m a big proponent. I’ve sought help myself at different times of my life. It’s important to help us all get and remain balanced so that we can be our best selves for our loved ones. There’s no greater example than Calvin Ridley, who on Sunday issued a statement that he’s stepping away from football to work on his own mental health. So even those marvelous athletes need help. Thinking a good thought for Ridley and all the men out there who are going to seek that very necessary help. Also, giving a shoutout to Dave Kluge for coming up with the idea for fantasy content creators to rock their ‘staches this month. Salud, literally.

WEEK 8 ADENTRO Y AFUERA, DON’T BE ESCARED OF HALLOWEEN

Happy Halloween, Familia! How I used to love Halloween when I was a kid, and it’s been special to see my kids embrace it even more than I did with some incredible costumes over the years. They’re all teenagers now, so going door to door doesn’t have the allure, but they still want to dress up. So it’s not just about candy in our house.

WEEK 8, LOS PEEKUPS, WAIVER WIRE, NFL RECORDS WATCH & BENGALS ARE FOR REAL

OK Familia, that’s 7 weeks in the books for the NFL season. That’s halfway for the fantasy football regular season. We know some things that we predicted and/or suspected before the season: Derrick Henry is some species evolved beyond mere humans. The Texans would be a work in progress on both sides of the ball. And there have been some surprises: Ja’Marr Chase running down rookie record books after having the dropsies during the preseason. And that Washington secondary acting like a matador. Ole!

WEEK 7 DFS, ADIOS BYEMAGEDDON

Yes, we’ve heard enough about Byemageddon. It’s the end of the world as we know it, and many of us are not fine. I’ve even added to it. Basta! When it comes to DFS, it’s all different. I really like so many matchups this week that are looking so tasty. Like sizzling shrimp fajitas, hot pico de gallo and some homemade corn tortillas. Sabroso!

WEEK 7 ADENTRO Y AFUERA, LLORAR Y LLORAR

Anyone who’s been along for the roller coaster ride that is the Dodgers’ 2021 postseason run has noticed the mariachis that have been playing before the game and between innings at Dodger Stadium. They’ve even been shown during the TV broadcasts. I got a firsthand view and listen during Game 3, which had plenty of excitement beyond the music. Gracias, Cody Bellinger.

WEEK 7, LOS PEEKUPS, WHEN YOU HAVE TO SIT YOUR STUDS

When bye weeks started to come into play in the early 1990s, we all hated it when we had to sit our stud players for even a game during the season. Looking back on an era when we played TD-only scoring, it seemed like star players were fewer and further between, so when they had to take a seat it just seemed to hurt more.

WEEK 6 ADENTRO Y AFUERA, AVOID THE TRAPS

This is a week that worries me. There are traps all around. It’s a perfect storm of the start of bye weeks, injuries and good players going on the road into what could be tough matchups.

WHERE WERE YOU WHEN KIRK GIBSON HIT HIS 1988 WORLD SERIES HOME RUN?

Where were you? People ask this question with national and worldwide life-altering events. The JFK assasination. The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. Neil Armstrong’s moon landing. 9/11. For these and other memorable moments, where we were and who we were with are just as ingrained in our consciousness as the events themselves.

WEEK 6, LOS PEEKUPS, IT’S BYE, BYE, BYE TIME

Familia, this is when we’re all tested as fantasy managers. We do our best not to panic and dive deep when our top picks go on a bye, bye, bye. And sometime those players even pay off. In 2016, I had Martellus Bennett going in Week 5 because of byes and injuries. In my flex on a team that already had a TE starting. What did he do? He got me 6 catches for 67 yard and 3 TDs! You think I won that week because of him?
